Hortense, a 40-year old nurse originally from the Ivory Coast, leaves her
family for her lover, Jean-Paul, an oyster farmer in the area of Bordeaux.
Her husband, a macho, very traditional man, sees his whole world turn upside
down. Suddenly, he finds himself raising their two younger children on his
own, and, to his horror, discovers that his third son, a handsome young man,
is homosexual. The arrival of beautiful Amina, the lonely neighbor, and of
Malik’s sisters in law from Adidjan, provokes some surprising twists.

Mahamat-Saleh Haroun was born in Abéché (Chad) in 1960 and first studied
film in Paris and then journalism in Bordeaux. For several years he was a
journalist but then returned to his first love: he made his first short film
in 1994, Maral Tanié, and six years later made his debut with a feature
film, Bye Bye Africa, which was awarded two prizes at the Venice Film
Festival, including that for the Best First Film. In 2002 he made Abouna,
selected for the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes and then successfully
shown all over the world. In 2007 Daratt was awarded the Special Mention of
the Jury at the 17th African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival in
Milan. The 2010 feature film A Screaming Man won the Jury Prize at the 2010
Cannes Film Festival , making Haroun the first Chadian director to enter, as
well as win, an award in the main Cannes competition.
