Produktion

In-Diva Jazz

“In-Diva Jazz” ist eine mutige neue Zusammenarbeit zweier Stimmdiven: Eine aus der Welt des Jazz, die andere aus der Welt der Klassischen Indischen Musik; begleitet und inspiriert von drei außergewöhlichen Musikern an Gitarre, Bass und Perkussion. Das Repertoire bedient Jazz Standards & original compositions, Indische Ragas, frei improvisierte Zwischenspiele, verflochten mit der fanstastischen Welt meditativer Sounds.

Sangeeta Bandyopadhyay is one of the most outstanding performers in the present generation of Indian classical vocalists. As the daughter of the Tabla maestro Pandit Sankha Chatterjee, she is among the rare musicians to receive rigorous training from the greatest maestros from three illustrious schools of music, namely Lucknow Gharana, Patiala Gharana and Indore Gharana. Her style of music follows the magnificent path created by Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Amir Khan in different genres like Khayal, Thumri and Bhajan. Besides performing extensively in India Sangeeta has performed in Europe, Canada and the USA for the last twenty years. She has successfully synthesised the traditional genre of Indian Classical Music with her own individuality, enthralling music lovers all over the world from a very tender age, and still continues in that endeavour.

Judy Niemack has lived bi-continentally in NYC and Berlin since 1995, performing actively around the world with her band and various ensembles while leading the Jazz Institut Berlin vocal department as Germany’s first Professor of Vocal Jazz. Judy is known for her ability to improvise as well as for her beautiful voice. “She sings like an angel...an angel who’s heard Basie and Miles!” (Downbeat). Her early musical path led her to Opera studies at New England Conservatory, then to studies of improvisation with saxophonist Warne Marsh. In the years following she has released 11 CDs and 3 vocal jazz method books. This project is near to her heart, a vocal adventure with a singer equally attuned to creating beautiful, challenging and utterly new music.
