"Writing Gender: Sexuality, Feminism and Masculinity"

The second public reading, as part of the 2018 British Council Literature Seminar, will be given by the author Paul McVeigh. The event will be chaired by Dr. Herbert Grieshop.

The Good Son, Paul’s debut novel, won The Polari Prize and The McCrea Literary Award. It was shortlisted for The Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award, The Guardian’s ‘Not The Booker’ Prize and a finalist for The People’s Book Prize. The Good Son was chosen as Brighton’s City Reads 2016 and was given out as part of World Book Night 2017. It is currently shortlisted for the Prix du Roman Cezam in France.

The Good Son was selected from 160 books by The British Council and The Literary Platform to be one of 12 to take part in The UK-Russia Year of Language and Literature 2016. Paul was also selected as one of 40 writers to be part of the International Literary Showcase and one of the first 12 to be commissioned by them.

Paul McVeigh has taught and read his work in Australia, Austria, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Singapore, Switzerland, Turkey and the UK. He judges international literary competitions and, in 2018, the Edge Hill Prize and the Dylan Thomas Prize.
