Creole

From Funk to Finnish Tango and way beyond:
Welcome to creole!

creole – is the best known, most influential and most prestigious global music contest in Europe. The creole was first held in 2006/2007 and is now presented bi-annually. Since its early days, it has established itself as an important platform where both well-known performers and new talents from Germany's global music scene can showcase their work to an audience of music fans, industry experts, journalists and talent scouts.

The contest is made up of eight regional heats taking place throughout Germany, with two winners being chosen from each region. Hundreds of musicians apply to take part in the heats of this increasingly popular music contest held over the course of a weekend.

The judging panel of each regional heat comprises experts from the music industry. Although the competition is fierce, the atmosphere among the musicians and the audience remains as joyful and as open-minded as the various musical styles being showcased.

The winners of the regional heats are invited to compete in the “creole final” in Berlin to win the creole crown. The winners not only receive the iconic creole prize sculpture and prize money of 5.000 €, but also the opportunity for exposure and recognition on a wider national and global scale. The creole has a major effect and influence on the music industry, due to the enormous boost a nomination or award creates, by giving prestige to a band or performer.

creole – Global Music from Germany presents concerts by various artists with musical styles ranging from Balkan Disco Jazz, Finnish tango, jazz-adapted German traditional songs to Chanson Brasil and modernised Anatolian traditional music.
