Conceived of by Herbie Hancock and organised for the first time in 2011 by UNESCO for the 30th of April, International Jazz Day has quickly developed into an event celebrated worldwide. The WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN has been organising an annual concert in honour of International Jazz Day since 2013.

This year we are celebrating INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY from the 28th of April (Saturday) to the 30th of April (Monday) and launching our featured year-long event WorldJazz@WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN:

On Saturday, 28th April, our new concert series kicks off at 8pm: WORLD JAZZ NIGHT where we introduce an extraordinary world jazz musician once a month.

On Sunday, 29th April, we start our garden season with our HOMAGE SESSION. Each Sunday will feature a jazz legend in the first set and a jam session in the second!

On the official International Jazz Day, Monday, 30th April, the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN will be closed to the public. However, a programme for International Jazz Day will still be produced: The WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN club will be converted into a studio and new compositions will be practiced and recorded – and streamed live on Facebook from 6pm. This includes performances by the Little Big Band with guests from the international jazz scene with brand new ORIGINAL MUSIC, never heard before, that has been made, developed, rehearsed and recorded in Berlin!
