Sound is getting the female touch – in Jazz too!

Female musicians are increasingly becoming successfully involved in Germany’s music establishment and at the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN.

According to Jazzstudie (transl. jazz research), whilst their share is still at 20% - it is rising. The topic ‘Equality in Jazz’ was recently on the agenda at the latest federal conference of Jazz and led to the actual Declaration of Equality of Women by the Union of German Jazz Musicians. For the first time in 54 years a woman directed the Jazzfest Berlin - the most prestigious Jazz festival in Germany.

Equally, at the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN, women in music will be the focus in 2019.
The Berlin multi-disciplinary venue started its’ Friday series, WorldWideMusic, as early as March, with “Balance for Better”. This is a concert series, which throughout the year, will be bringing more women on the stage and is curated exclusively by women. On the 30th of April 2019 the venue will be staging, starting with International Jazz Day, the four part series „She´s Got Jazz“an entirely female programme.
