Arcadius Didavi Quartett

Afrojazz and Jazzfunk

In his quartet, Arcadius Didavi is accompanied by three international jazz musicians. They arrange his compositions skillfully, at the same time adding their own music accents without blurring the strong overall African feel of the pieces. Here, Arcadius Didavi is both visually and musically the grooving energy source of the band. The rhythmic component of his music is emphasized in that all musicians in addition to their main instrument also play percussion.

Line Up:

Arcadius Didavi worked as a Bassist for many years in the West African Jazz Clubs of Lomé, Cotonou and Accra with names such as Papa Wemba, Monique Sikka, Nayan Kabel, Hervé Mecheny, Margaret Pikes (Roy Heart Theatre), Rhoda Scott, Gilles Rennes and Lionel Loueke.

His specialties, Afrojazz and Jazzfunk, were developed in bands such as Assan, Anima and Alokpa. He has performed with his West African Art Jazz Orchestra (WAAJO) at international festivals in the Ivory Coast (Massa), Burkina Faso, Ghana and Senegal (Saint Louis Jazz Festival) among others.

Arcadius Didavi has been living in Berlin since 2006. In addition to the bass guitar, he also plays the Nyatiti harp, double kalimba and gogba, which he has built and developed himself in order to create a specific sound. In Germany, he has performed with Matthias Klause-Gauster in the duo Noir&Blanc, with Ramon Vallé, Mark Scheel, Liquid Jazz Trio, Betty L Quartett, LitoBringas, Sonja Kandels, Aly Keita, Abdourahman Diop, Afroberlin Soundcheck. In France and the Netherlands, he has performed with Kossilate Republic.

In 2012, he founded the Arcadius Didavi Quartett. Since 2014, he has been playing in the trio AFAFA as well as with Tatiana Heintz and Gilbert Trefzger in their Soul Project Gibraltar.
