You Just Have to Want It I

What can young media makers with diverse backgrounds do better and differently than the established houses? One thing is certain: producing their own media projects. Many new online platforms such as "renk" or "Fresh" from Austria break the stereotype of the so-called "ethnic media" and successfully speak toward a young, diverse audience. Other colleagues break new ground and set up charitable initiatives such CORRECT!V. How do they go about it? What must be taken into consideration and can one live from it?

Direction: Miguel Zamorano, Neuer deutscher Medienmacher, Berlin
Contributors: Melisa Karakus, renk, Berlin; Jonathan Sachse, CORRECT!V

You Just Have to Want It II

More and more fleeing journalists are coming to Germany and have little prospects in their field of work. Many media makers have established contacts within local networks and are confronted with the question of how they can help their colleagues. What should and must we do as new media makers to provide substantial support to refugee journalists? What projects are there and what exactly does the situation of our refugee colleagues look like?

Direction: Rebecca Sumy Roth, Freie Journalistin, München
Contributors: Sharmila Hashimi, Radio Journalist, Afghanistan; Monis Bukhari, Journalist and Blogger, Syria; Jens-Uwe Thomas, Reporter ohne Grenzen

Workshop: You Just Have to Want It III

Hardly ever has there been as much reporting about escape and asylum as today. And rightly so. But what is actually taught? What images and perspectives are transported by the media, if, for example, in regards to burning accomodations, one is learning more about the demands of the perpetrator than the situation of the victims? We are talking about appropriate reporting, good and bad examples and what mistakes happen most frequently. Better reporting about escape and asylum - you just have to want it.

Direction: Rana Göroglu (NdM, Mediendienst Integration), Fabio Ghelli (Mediendienst Integration)
Contributors: Alice Lanzke, (NdM, Amadeu Antonio Stiftung)

Neue deutsche Medienmacher is a nationwide independent association of journalists and represents the interests of media makers with so-called 'migration backgrounds'. It advocates for balanced reporting that adaquately reflects Germany as a country of immigration.
