The WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN is marking the end of 2015 on the 4th Advent Weekend with a series of Advent Concerts from various Christian traditions.

The first concert will be held on Saturday night with one of this year's winners of the creole World Music Awards: Egyptian singer and bandleader Nasser Kilada, who will be performing sacred songs from the Coptic tradition of Egypt.

After this, the internationally renowned early music ensemble Die Freiburger Spielleyt will be presenting a concert with songs from the Camino de Santiago, the pilgrimage to the grave of St. James in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.

The concert of these two ensembles shows us how medieval European music builds upon Arab traditions, both in melody and rhythm as well as instrumentation. It becomes apparent that an Islamic-Christian tradition could indeed be found in the music of Europe, from which it parted during the Baroque period with its introduction of equal temperament and ensembles from one family of instruments.
