Istanbul Songs

Istanbul - one of the most beautiful cities in the world, molded and shaped over millennia by people who lived and live in it and their countless stories. The city is a cultural melting pot and has been so often sung like no other city. Inspired by this city and its unique culture, Meral Cihan Ensemble presents songs from Istanbul, which are known as "Istanbul Türküleri".

The music is best reflected in the "Istanbul Songs" that were largely composed anonymously and are still sung in Greece, the Balkans and the Arab world.

Moving melodies with melancholic lyricism describe the longing and nostalgia of the people. Whether a lover on the shores of the Bosphorus eagerly awaiting his beloved, or a woman who laments of her husband, who gambled away the family's money.

A moving repertoire, sung in Arabic, Greek and Turkish.

Line Up:

  • Meral Cihan – Vocals
  • Attila Wiegand – Ney
  • Lorenz Masé – Violin
  • Murat Denizkusu – Percussion
  • Orhan Senel – Kanun
  • Soner Dastan – Oud
  • Gidi Farhi - Double Bass
