A non-verbal performance for peace and reunification

The theater group Setnet is traveling from South Korea to Germany for the 25th anniversary of German reunification and seeks to engage the audience in a dialogue with their piece "Before Barbed Wire ... Duet for One Voice" on the division of Korea, about their experiences of fleeing from North Korea to China and talk about integration in South Korea.

Before Barbed Wire ... Duet for One Voice

70 years ago, Korea was liberated from Japan's colonial rule. But the joy was short-lived. Korea was divided by the victorious powers, the Soviet Union and United States, along the 38th parallel. In 1950, the Korean War broke out, which devastated the country immensely. The border between North and South is insurmountable even today.

The theater group of North Korean refugee youths Setnet is travelling for the 25th anniversary of German reunification from South Korea to Germany and will be performing in Dresden and Berlin. The non-verbal performance developed specifically for Germany leads the audience through a variety of elements such as concerts, dances, games, miming, puppet shows, live music, photo and film material on the history of the divided Koreas and also tells of their own experiences as displaced persons:

The story will be told in eight scenes, starting with the Korean War to the division, the escape from famine and the arrival in South Korea. Here, the theater also takes a critical look at South Korean society. Some young people turn their backs on their new home and move to a third country. The impressive short film "One Way" about the phenomenon of migration will also be integrated into the performance.
