Loharano - german/malagasy song project

Ricky Olombelo, the Madagascan global musician/ singer/ songwriter/ percussionist, and Ingeborg Freytag, the multi-instrumentalist from Planet Earth, continue their musical collaboration which began in Madagascar in 2010!

For "Loharano - German/Malagasy song project" they have invited Manfred Wagenbreth and Johannes Uhlmann to join them. Ingeborg, Manfred and Johannes share a history of playing in folk-centred projects, particularly the "Leipziger Folk Sessions". Manfred played a key role in the (East) German folk revival at the end of the 1970s and was subsequently the frontman and soul of various bands with related styles. His "Bordun" (MDR) radio show is legendary - he has been playing music from around the world on the show since 1992, when world music was a genre unknown to most. Johannes is from the younger generation. His band “Ulman” was a pan-European electro-folk sensation in the mid-90s, and has been constantly creating new musical pathways and expressive forms since then. "Loharano" means “spring” in Madagascan. A place that we all have in common, regardless of where we come from, what the colour of our skin is, what we believe in and what language we speak. Madagascan and German songs from Ricky and Manfred, German folk songs and Madagascan roots – a successful blend of the essences of both cultures!
