Women Seeking ReFuge

“Acting Together for a World of Peace” is the motto of this year’s Global Education Week from 12-20 November. The debate about refugees in Germany that has been going on for more than a year is one thing that proves, more than ever before, that peace has become a rare commodity in many countries around the world. People continue to flee from war, political persecution or hopelessness. Unlike the situation a few years ago, more and more women and children are now leaving their home in search of a better future. They currently make up over 30% of refugees in Germany according to the Federal Agency of Migration and Refugees (BAMF).

In light of this, we are dedicating ourselves to the theme of “Women Seeking Refuge” on 16 November. At this event, female refugees will share their experiences and discuss various types of challenges and difficulties with experts. These concern issues that are especially significant for women seeking refugee from their home and integrating in Germany and Berlin.

Eleonore Bekamenga, Ayekoo e.V., advisor
N.N., activist from Women in Exile
Dr. Abir Alhaj Mawas, Terre des Femmes, Department of Refugees and Women’s Rights

Miriam Camara, founder and director of AKOMA Bildung & Kultur gUG
Ms Camara’s organization assists other organizations in processes of (diversity-oriented) organization development and conducts awareness-raising anti-racism/anti-discrimination training programmes and empowerment workshops. She is also an advisor on the topics of refuge and migration.
