Jetzt reicht's

Theatre play for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

On the 25th of November 2016, the international day of action that says "No" to violence against women is taking place once again.
Numerous events are being held throughout Berlin to mark this day and raise awareness of this critical problem, which unfortunately remains unchanged: one in four women in Germany is the victim of domestic violence. Domestic violence has many dark aspects, and sometimes it hard to recognise it at first glance.
The Equal Opportunities Officers from the districts of Lichtenberg, Neukölln and Treptow-Köpenick are staging a theatre play this year entitled "Jetzt reicht's" (Enough is enough). The play was written by the director Christine Neubauer-Dorsch, and now has its premiere in Berlin after a very successful production in the city of Straubing, in southern Germany.
"Jetzt reicht's" is a collage of scenes on the topic of domestic violence. The production wishes to inform, generate empathy, empower and contribute to raising awareness. "Domestic violence is not a private theme, rather it is a societal one", writer and director Christine Neubauer-Dorsch says. Change begins with awareness.
"In my productions I always try - even with difficult themes - to connect lightness and depth", she says. A self-educated director, she connects her love of theatre with her professional experience as a dance therapist and alternative psychotherapy practitioner. The theatre ensemble consists of former members of the Molino theatre group and other amateur performers who have dealt with this topic in a courageous and creative manner.
After the theatre performance, there will be a podium discussion with the director Christine Neubauer-Dorsch, social worker Heike Schulze from the advisory centre for women affected by violence at Offensiv 91’e.V., a representative from the Hestia women's refuge in Lichtenberg as well as political representatives and the district Equal Opportunities Officers. The goal of the podium discussion is to allow the opportunity to reflect on the play together and to discuss the available support structures.
The play has received financial support form the Senatsverwaltung für Arbeit, Integration und Frauen (Berlin Senate Department for Work, Integration and Women).
