Cherry Bandora

oriental psych party

Cherry Bandora are four Israeli musicians who live in Berlin and revitalise the 'vintage' sounds of Greek Laïkó, Turkish Anadolu rock and Israeli Mizrahit with a snappy tempo and amplified instruments.

The band's repertoire is based on Greek 'golden classics' from well-known songwriters and legendary bouzouki masters of the 1950s, such as Stelios Kazantzidis, Manolis Xiotis and Vasilis Tsisanis.
These songs feature the sounds of the harbour cities of Istanbul and Jaffa in the 60s and 70s, where they were constantly reinterpreted with local as well as Western influences by popular musicians such as Ajda Pekkan, Aris San, Grazia, Neşe Karaböcek, Levitros and Kamuran Akkor.

Sometimes joyful, sometimes melancholy, they are accompanied by bouzouki with delay effects, Greek blues guitar and the psychedelic sound of the Hammond organ.
