Ménage de la Nouvelle

Ménage de la nouvelle

New Notions of Family

Single parents, relationships between two, three or four partners, stepfamilies, same-sex love, and chosen families - family constellations develop dynamically. The international program series Ménage de la nouvelle takes a precise look at the constructs and realities of families and partnerships. What moral dilemmas challenge the protagonists in their pursuit to love their loved ones as they so wish?

Brotherly rivalries within the polygamous community of Ramingining; the selfless love and care of a Nigerian grandmother for her grandson; or the legendary Nola Darling, who refuses to submit to a monogamous relationship - family comes in many forms.

The different stations of love and family will be presented and discussed, also in terms of the new languages of film. The post-film discussions will be lead by the program's curator Branwen Okpako, together with filmmakers or experts on the films' themes. Thursday evenings at WorldWideCinema are going to be controversial, sexy, loving, caring and most of all: autonomous.

Ménage de la nouvelle took place within the framework of the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN's ongoing film series WorldWideCinema from November 21 to December 19, 2013.
